Smoke one with Seth Rogen!
An highly interesting Airbnb experience from Houseplant. Plus, some other branded stays.
I know I went a little clickbait with that subjectline. Apologies.
Now those of you who’ve been around here for a while know of my love for Airbnb as a brand. They made waves in 2022 with their OMG! campaign that funded weird new properties, and I considered their act of offering free housing for Afghan refugees as the best “brand campaign” the year before. Then, at a time when everyone’s increasingly thinking short-term and performance marketing, they decided to cull all that and focus only on brand building marketing. Before their IPO, I called them one of the most innovative companies of the 21st century and I still stand by that. Heck, Brian Chesky’s “design a 11-star experience” should be mandatory reading in business schools.
All along the way, they’ve also built themselves as a medium to do marketing (sorta) on. That’s right, branded Airbnb experiences. And honestly, I wonder why more brands don’t do this. Let me give you a few examples, starting with a very recent one that should explain the subjectline of this email.
Stay and get blazed with Seth Rogen, courtesy Houseplant
The actor’s legal cannabis company has developed an Airbnb experience where you can learn pottery (really), play vinyl records, and of course, BYOW and fly with your host. That’s right, Seth will be there himself.
It’s a pretty hilarious idea. You can read about it here and if you’re interested, book it here. Proceeds go to charity.
